BNA Membership

Membership is open to those who wish to practice ATARASHII Naginata under the aupices of the BNA, provided that they attended training at a BNA club or seminar venue. The auspices of the BNA only applies when practice is under the supervision of an approved BNA dan grade instructor, British (or foreign), who holds PI insurance cover for Atarashii Naginata.

Individuals who make one month (perhaps) of visits to London for practices, will be encouraged to be Full Membership BNA status, it is after all only £15 (£10 renewal thereafter).

Insurance

Please note insurance only without BNA membership will not be offered to British nationals, and will only be offered to foreign Naginata players at the discretion of BNA, so that our legal obligations to have all individuals practicing on a regular basis in Great Britain, insured to practice with all those practicing Naginata in any approved venue and/or club by what is known legally as, “the Assured” (the Assured, being the British Naginata Association), including with Dan grade instructors, British or otherwise.

It must be made clear, foreign nationals who are Naginata dan grade, are generally not members of the British Naginata Association, they remain members of their own country associations, however for British insurance and teaching purposes, they may come under the British insurance cover, so they may teach those BNA registered students in Great Britain. Proof of their foreign insurance (for Atarashii Naginata) will be required.

But any foreign dan grade in Great Britain (however temporary their stay) who wishes to teach, will be offered coach level insurance (in order to insure an individual for this), it will be compulsory (by our insurers) for that individual to agree to a CRB check, in order to gain CRB certification. We do not make that policy, all martial arts insurers in Britain are making this mandatory.

We hope the INF will recognise that London is also a multi-cultural melting pot, and the London club reflects our society make-up. It is hoped, the INF appreciates and respects that non-British people reside here for a prolonged amount of time (work & study), and these practicing foreign Naginata individuals need to be insured, otherwise it jeopardises the health & safety and hence insurance cover of British nationals, practicing Naginata. We would never exclude foreigners whom we welcome warmly and openly, but they need to be insured with us, if they cannot prove they have world-wide insurance cover under their own country association/federation, to practice Naginata here in Britain.
